Brad Boyd grew up on a small ranch in Sugarite Canyon outside Raton, NM. After attending Texas Tech University, he began J. Boyd Enterprises, LLC in 1997 in the Southeast Texas Panhandle. At the time, its focus was on land clearing and helping the local ranchers maximize grazing by removing mesquite and juniper trees, custom planting improved grasses and fertilizing pastures. After the Texas Panhandle experienced an almost 1-million-acre range fire in the spring of 2006, he began to study fire, its effects on the land, and how to lessen those effects.
In 2010, he relocated with his family to the Fort Worth, Texas, area. After many years building a successful tree and firewood business, he once again became interested in fire and its effects on the land after the massive Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak fire in 2022. Shortly after the fire, Brad Boyd toured the fire ravaged areas near Las Vegas, New Mexico. He began researching and experimenting with equipment suitable for the terrain of Northern New Mexico. This led to J Boyd Enterprises being rebranded as NewTex Land and Timber with a renewed focus on taking what has been learned over almost three decades and applying that knowledge with state-of-the-art equipment to lessen the fire danger in the mountains of Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado.
